Why Do I Sing and Write Songs?

Music has been an important part of my being for as long as I can remember. When I was a little girl I was fascinated by my dad's stories of his barbershop quartet, "The Four Tones" which was consistently ranked as one of the top 20 quartets in International competition. When we took car trips we sang happily together and worked on making layer upon layer of harmonies for our family pleasure. The church choirs my mom directed became another vehicle for me to grow and learn. I wrote my first song at age 13, "It's Time We Got to Thinkin'", and have been in love with songwriting ever since.

Matthew 5:14-16 says, "You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lamp stand, where it gives light to all in the house. Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father."

All my life I've felt that my light is in singing and songwriting, so wherever my life has led me, I have done that, just as I breathe and eat. I have songs for my family, songs for my students, (written for first communion, Catholic Schools week, daily Mass, etc.), songs for family sporting interests, songs for sports teams, songs for lunch ladies, songs for co-workers, songs for Cursillo ladies, songs for campaigns, songs for just about everything. (See Songwriting Highlights) I write and sing, because this is who I am. I know God wants me to continue to sing and write, and this Sally Sings website is now my lamp stand. If I can touch someone and meet their needs in any way, let God work through me to do that. We are all one in spirit, and are put on this earth to help each other in whatever way God has gifted us. I want to share His gifts with you, may God bless you in your gifts.

Each CD I am offering ends with a Tribute song, "Ticket To Heaven". This song is a tribute to our son Shane who was killed in a car accident in December of 2004. On the CD is the story about Shane and his gift to others of "Tickets to Heaven", which he gave to others before he died. Listen to
Ticket to Heaven

In Shane's honor I am humbled to be able to pay tribute to his legacy here on earth, by singing this song written in his honor, and sharing his gift. I'll be happy to send you some tickets to heaven for the asking.
